CD-ELISA™BioLOC’s Unique ELISA TechnologyBioLOC™ has created a means to achieve low-cost automation of ELISA by implementing the analyses on a (polymeric) platform in the form of a compact disk fabricated with a microfluidic design. The current design employs 24 sectors, thereby accommodating 24 assays per disk, as shown in Figure 1a. One sector is illustrated in Figure 1b and a photo of one sector from an actual disc is shown in Figure 1c. This product has been named CD-ELISA™.
The reagent solutions are loaded in the reservoirs which are located at different distances from the center of the CD. Due to the surface tension or capillary force, the reagent solutions will be retained in the reservoirs. Since the capillary force can be tuned according to the channel dimensions, one can design and implement different capillary force to each reservoir. By adjusting the rotating speed to create different magnitude of centrifugal force, the reagent solutions can be released from the reservoirs at different times, reducing error-prone manually-executed steps in conventional ELISA assays. By rotating the CD in a modified CD-player, the centrifugal force can be stepped higher and higher to overcome the capillary force from each reservoir in turn, releasing the fluids at the right time to run the next step of the ELISA process. An instrument will read the results using technologies similar to what is being done today with microtiter plates. |
